From now until Friday, the Young Friends of the Almeida and writer Roz Wyllie present the World Premiere of CommonWealth as part of the Almeida Festival. Sound Designer Max Pappenheim kindly answered some questions for Young Friend Elliott Hall, giving us the inside scoop on the world of aural creativity:

Developing Audio Description for Dance

Watch Ben Duke from Lost Dog talk about collaborating on an audio-described performance of Rabbits for the Almeida Festival. 

On Wednesday, 24 July at 9pm, the Almeida Festival performance of Rabbits from Lost Dog and Lucy Kirkwood will be audio-described. The creative team have worked with Almeida Theatre Access Officer Miranda Yates and audio describer Louise Fryer to develop the description of a show that falls somewhere between dance and physical theatre. Miranda and Louise recently offered some insight into the process so far:

The Almeida Festival kicks off on 9 July with what happens to the hope at the end of the evening, a new commission from long-term collaborators Tim Crouch, Andy Smith (a smith) and Karl James. The team behind The Author (Royal Court Upstairs) and the Obie Award-winning An Oak Tree recently let us into rehearsals to chat about collaborating on their latest piece, which explores friendship, belief and betrayal.

Each year, Young Friends of the Almeida involved in the year-long LAB project, commission a writer to create a play for a specific cast of young performers ages 15 – 25. CommonWealth is the 2012 – 13 LAB project from the Young Friends of the Almeida and writer Roz Wyllie, and will be performed as part of the Almeida Festival from 7 – 9 August 2013.

Custom/Practice are staging a slickly-edited, contemporary take on Shakespeare’s classic comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream for this summer’s Almeida Festival. Artistic Director Rae Macken recently took a few minutes to chat with us about the cast, the setting and why those elements make this production of Dream unique.
